You can be an Official…!
Hey Barracuda Parents!
Wanted to mention that there is a great way that we can volunteer our time – you too can be a swim official, and it’s not as difficult as you might imagine. The training is free, you get a free lunch, and then you get one free entry fee for every meet you officiate!
There is a training class at the Coppell YMCA this Saturday (March 12) from 10am-2pm. I know it’s late notice, but it’s not too late to participate. You can sign up here:
If you’re a non-swimmer like me (and even if you are), I can tell you that becoming an official has really helped me learn more about what my kids are going for in the pool, and it has provided a great way to get more involved with the goings-on of the team. Bonus alert: if you decide to go on to Level 2, you get a free whistle… 🙂
My understanding is that as the biggest team in our league, there is also an expectation that we would be supplying for each meet a proportionate number of officials (that’s in addition to supplying timers, at which Barracuda parents do excel for sure). Right now we do have a particular need for some parents who can (learn to) officiate (and do so) during the afternoon sessions.
If you have any questions, please reply in the comments section of this post.
Hope to see you on deck!
